Behind the scenes: How we gave an old apartment a new life
Renovating an apartment in the heart of Belgrade, on the well-known Kneza Milosa street, was for us more than a craft challenge from the very beginning. There is something special about these old city apartments, a spirit of past times waiting to be rediscovered. Working closely with the investor, we set out to completely transform the space and adapt it to a modern pace of life, while preserving the charm it already carried. It all started by stripping the apartment down to its core. Bringing it into the rough construction phase and clearing away everything unnecessary gave us a blank canvas on which to draw a new story. By removing partition walls, the apartment finally began to breathe. We expanded the bedroom area and created the perfect niche for a built-in wardrobe, gaining a space that felt both more spacious and warmer. We also relocated the room door so the built-in wardrobe could function to its full potential. In the momentum of that transformation, we also removed reminders of earlier decades that were burdening the space. We dismantled heavy old radiators from the 1960s, and carefully concealed their installations, which had been cutting across the walls for decades.
The new heating elements now bring warmth without disturbing the visual calm we wanted to achieve. Of course, all of this was accompanied by a complete replacement of the electrical and plumbing installations, because the true safety of a home comes from what remains unseen. What makes this apartment truly special are the details that gave it character. Through plaster works we shaped an elegant TV niche, while carefully selected wallpaper brought texture and depth into the space.

Still, the most beautiful part of the story is the old parquet. We did not want to replace it, but to bring back its former glow. Through an injection process we repaired and stabilized it, and after sanding and varnishing it shone once again, carrying the warmth of real wood that new materials cannot easily replace. In the end, even the terrace received a new railing and ceramics, becoming the perfect place for a first morning coffee with a view of the city.
